Senior Procurement and Supply Chain Manager
Position at Costain Group PLC. This role is designed for a highly experienced procurement professional who can lead procurement and supply chain strategy across major infrastructure programmes.
Job Description
The Procurement and Supply Chain Management function interfaces with third‑party organisations that support our business, whether for procurement of goods or services or relationship management. This team supports project delivery across sectors and ensures that strategic direction is identified and delivered.
Responsibilities
* Develop and implement strategic procurement and supply chain approaches for major programmes.
* Ensure effective procurement delivery across allocated projects, supporting delivery teams and aligning with group P&C targets.
* Maintain a robust, structured supply chain for both work‑winning and project delivery.
* Implement sector category management to optimise spend and performance while aligning with group strategies.
* Drive ESG initiatives, including SME development, social value, zero‑carbon solutions and safety, in partnership with the Head of Sustainable Procurement.
* Promote collaboration between the business and supply chain to unlock value through innovation and best practice, applying ISO44001 principles.
* Ensure strong governance and risk management, delivering effective performance oversight of the supply chain.
* Co‑operate with the Central Procurement function to ensure compatibility between departmental activities.
* Establish and maintain key supplier relationships, negotiate contracts and enforce compliance with terms.
* Build relationships with client supply chain and procurement teams, participating in their initiatives.
* Produce and utilise data to support effective decision‑making.
* Continuously improve procurement and supply‑chain processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
Essential Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or a related field.
* Member Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) qualified or similar professional certification (e.g., CPSM).
* Significant experience in a senior procurement or supply‑chain leadership role.
* Strong knowledge of supply‑chain management and procurement strategy to drive leverage and performance.
* Demonstrable negotiation and contract‑management skills.
* Excellent analytical, numerical, financial and data‑analysis abilities.
* High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
Desirable Qualifications
* MBA or Master’s degree in a related procurement field.
* MCIM or ILM Leadership qualification.
* Experience in developing and delivering category management.
* Knowledge of infrastructure industry procurement and supply‑chain operations.
* Experience working in a matrix organisation with influence at all levels.
* Familiarity with Costain procurement and supply‑chain systems.
* Working knowledge of e‑procurement software (e.g., SourceDogg, eJAGGAER, Arriba).
* Experience negotiating NEC3/NEC4 subcontracts to achieve favourable commercial outcomes.
* Understanding of framework projects and associated procurement practices.

* Experience in a senior procurement or supply‑chain role on large programmes.

* Extensive knowledge of supply‑chain management and procurement strategy.
