Job overview
We require an experienced phlebotomist to provide maternity leave cover at the Phlebotomy Service at the Royal London and Mile End Hospitals. The main duty is to collect blood samples from patients in inpatient and outpatient areas at The Royal London and Mile End Hospitals, and the Mental Health wards at Mile End Hospital.
The successful candidate may be required to work in other areas of the Trust.
Core working hours are 8.00am-5.30pm on weekdays and 8.00am-1.00pm on Saturdays, Sundays, and Bank Holidays. Successful candidates are expected to be flexible in their working patterns to meet service demands.
The requirements for these posts are:
1. A minimum of 6 months’ practical phlebotomy experience;
2. Good manual skills;
3. Good numeracy and literacy skills;
4. Good customer care skills;
5. Good attention to detail;
6. Basic biology knowledge;
7. Basic IT skills;
8. Compliance with all Trust policies relating to Infection Control and Health & Safety;
9. The ability to meet all the moving and handling requirements necessary to meet all service demands;
10. The ability to remain calm in a busy environment, to work as part of a team and without direct supervision, and to deal with patients in a sensitive, empathetic manner.
Main duties of the job
To participate in the provision of a high quality phlebotomy service to all patients in any location as required.
To manage and prioritise personal and team workloads in various clinical areas.
To be involved in the training of other staff where appropriate.

Essential criteria
11. GCSEs in Maths and English language or minimum of Key Skills Level 1 in literacy and numeracy, or equivalent qualifications.
12. A U.K.-recognised Certificate of Competency in Phlebotomy.
Experience
Essential criteria
13. Evidence of a minimum of 6 months’ experience in phlebotomy competency and skills.
14. Evidence of recent practical phlebotomy experience in a U.K.-based clinical team.
15. Experience of working with the public and demonstrating strong customer care skills.
Desirable criteria
16. Paediatric phlebotomy experience

17. Knowledge of basic human anatomy and physiology.
