Overview
An established engineering organisation specialising in fabricated mechanical systems and offsite manufacturing solutions is seeking an experienced workshop leader to oversee production operations. The business delivers high-quality engineered solutions to a range of sectors and is continuing to grow its operational capability.
Role Summary
This role is responsible for leading workshop operations to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, and to the required quality standards. The successful candidate will manage people, processes, and resources while driving continuous improvement across manufacturing activities.
Key Responsibilities
Production Coordination
Plan, schedule, and oversee production activities to meet agreed delivery milestones.
Allocate labour, equipment, and materials effectively to maximise efficiency and output.
Team Management & Development
Lead, supervise, and support workshop personnel across multiple disciplines.
Conduct performance reviews, identify development needs, and promote a positive and productive working culture.
Quality Control
Ensure all manufactured work complies with technical drawings, specifications, and internal quality requirements.
Implement inspection and testing regimes and address non-conformances promptly.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Promote and enforce safe working practices at all times.
Carry out risk assessments and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and company policies.
Continuous Improvement
Identify inefficiencies and production bottlenecks.
Introduce process improvements to enhance productivity, quality, and cost control.
Materials & Resource Management
Monitor inventory levels and coordinate material availability to support production schedules.
Reduce waste and manage resources responsibly.
Reporting & Communication
Produce regular production and performance reports.
Liaise closely with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment between production, engineering, and delivery requirements.
Experience & Skills Required
Essential:
Background in a fabrication, manufacturing, or heavy engineering environment.
Proven experience leading a workshop or production team.
Strong understanding of fabrication, welding, and assembly processes.
Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
Proactive approach to problem-solving and operational improvement.
Strong commitment to health, safety, and quality standards.
Desirable:
Experience with continuous improvement or lean manufacturing methodologies.
Familiarity with recognised quality management systems or industry standards.
