Overview
Personal Assistant to a 15-year-old boy living in Treorchy who has Potocki Lapski Syndrome. Lacks road safety awareness and may wander or be rough when excited. Needs close supervision and enjoys arts and crafts and outdoor activities. Craves attention from adults and is happy to participate in activities when an adult is present.
Purpose of Job
To support the child out in the community, encourage independence and develop living skills.
Hours and Pay
6 hours per week. Days and times are flexible and can be discussed at interview. Rate of pay: £14.00 per hour and 0.40p per mile.
Responsibilities
* Support access to local activities, parks or playgrounds.
* Encourage independence, living and social skills.
* Teach/assist engagement with surroundings and learning from them.
* Help with money management, e.g., making payments in shops and counting change.
* Provide support to focus on road safety.
* Have fun and make the most of time together.
* Ensure safety at all times with constant supervision.
* Use your car to take the child to places of choice.
Person Specification
* Proactive and focused on helping the child achieve goals and independence.
* Patient, kind and friendly; sensible, mature and reliable.
* Responsible for the child’s safety.
* Full UK driver’s license and access to a car are essential.
About the Job
This position is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS Disclosure (Police Check), which must be completed prior to commencement. The cost of this check will be covered by the Local Authority.
All necessary checks will be conducted to verify that any candidate has the legal right to work in the UK before employment begins. Although this is a part-time role, it is a legitimate position requiring the submission of a National Insurance number. Employment will commence under an initial trial period.
Wages will be paid monthly and appropriate holiday pay will be provided.
