Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced, trustworthy, and proactive Shop Manager to oversee the daily operations of our off licence store. The ideal candidate will lead by example, ensure compliance with licensing laws, maintain high standards of customer service, and manage a small team effectively. This role requires someone with strong organisational skills, leadership qualities, and retail experience—preferably in alcohol or convenience retail. ⸻ Key Responsibilities: • Daily Operations: Open and close the store, oversee cash handling, monitor stock, and ensure the shop is clean, organised, and running efficiently. • Team Management: Supervise, train, and motivate staff; manage rotas, holiday requests, and performance. • Sales & Customer Service: Provide excellent service, deal with customer queries or complaints, and promote key products. • Stock Control: Monitor inventory levels, place orders, receive deliveries, and carry out regular stock checks to prevent loss or wastage. • Licensing Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to alcohol licensing laws (Challenge 25 policy), including correct age verification and refusal procedures. • Security: Prevent theft or fraud through proper procedures and by maintaining a secure environment for staff and customers. • Reporting: Prepare daily/weekly sales and cash reports, handle banking, and communicate store performance to the owner or area manager. ⸻ Requirements: • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a retail or off licence supervisory/managerial role • Strong leadership and people management skills • Excellent knowledge of alcohol licensing laws and compliance procedures • Trustworthy with cash handling and confidential information • Ability to work independently and take initiative • Good communication and customer service skills • Competent using EPOS systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, email, etc.) • Flexible availability (evenings, weekends, holidays) ⸻ Desirable: • Personal Licence Holder (preferred or willing to obtain) • First Aid or Health & Safety certification • Experience with ordering systems and supplier negotiation ⸻ Benefits: • Competitive salary with performance-based bonuses • Staff discounts • Flexible scheduling • Career progression opportunities • Supportive and friendly working environment ⸻ How to Apply: Send your CV and a short cover letter outlining your experience to [insert email/contact info], or apply in-store.
