Job Description

Job Title: Teacher - Primary
Reports To: Principal

The duties of a teacher include planning and preparing courses and lessons, teaching to meet the educational needs of pupils, setting and marking work, assessing progression, and reporting on pupil development and attainment. Teachers are expected to promote the well-being and progress of pupils, provide guidance and information to pupils and parents, maintain records, and participate in meetings and school activities. The role includes carrying out general professional duties and specific duties as reasonably directed by the principal and employing authorities, and may involve planning, assessment, discipline, safeguarding, examinations preparation, and other duties as appropriate to the grade and circumstances.

The post holder is expected to promote good relations, equality of opportunity, and to respect equality legislation at all times.


Responsibilities

* Plan and prepare courses and lessons; teach to meet pupils’ educational needs; set and mark work;
* Assess, record and report on pupil development, progress and attainment;
* Promote the general progress and well-being of pupils; provide advice and guidance on educational and social matters and future careers;
* Maintain records and reports, communicate with parents and collaborate with external bodies as approved;
* Participate in meetings related to curriculum, administration and pastoral arrangements;
* Contribute to oral and written assessments, reports and references as required;
* Engage in staff development, review methods of teaching, and participate in professional development opportunities;
* Assist in the development of courses of study, teaching materials, and assessment methods; supervise and manage pupils in line with school policies;
* Maintain discipline and safeguard pupils’ health and safety on and off school premises;
* Assist in preparing pupils for public examinations and supervising assessment and presentation for examinations;
* Assist with school management activities, including involvement in curriculum, organisation, and pastoral functions;
* Attend assemblies, register pupils, and supervise as required; comply with working hours and conditions as set by the employing authority.


Qualifications and Criteria

* Essential Criteria
* Hold a teaching qualification recognized to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland
* Minimum of 1 year’s paid teaching experience at Foundation Stage/Key Stage 1 within the last 6 years
* Experience using a range of classroom strategies to support and challenge all abilities, including those with SEN
* Experience using digital media/technology to enhance teaching and learning
* Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post
* Pre-employment checks as required
* Essential Criteria (continued)
* Knowledge of NI Curriculum for Foundation Stage/Key Stage One
* Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies; knowledge of SEND Code of Practice
* Effective teaching and classroom management skills; ability to create an inclusive learning environment
* Ability to work with colleagues, parents, and the wider community; ability to work as part of a team
* Knowledge of IT tools, digital classroom resources, and assessment methods
* Desirable Criteria
* Two years’ paid experience teaching at Foundation Stage and/or Key Stage 1; experience coordinating ICT or play/ activity-based learning
* Experience monitoring pupil progress, setting targets, and interventions
