Weare looking to recruit an enthusiastic, experienced and motivated HealthcareAssistant to join us at Carlton Group Practice.
Withprevious experience of working in primary care and a commitment to furthertraining, education and development along with excellent inter-personal skills,verbal and written skills. You will be working under supervision as part of thewider nursing team on supporting our patients at our busy GP Practice.
TheHCA will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery ofprescribed programmes of patient care which may include assisting with minorsurgical procedures and vasectomy / carpal tunnel operations.
Thepost will include some administrative duties as well as phlebotomy duties.
Main duties of the job
1. Undertake new patient health checks
2. Support the practice nurse team with health promotion programmes
3. Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
4. Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
5. Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
6. Support the Practice Phlebotomist during periods of absence
7. Support the practice nurse team with the management of chronic disease clinics to include phlebotomy
8. Carry out BMI checks as directed
9. Act as a chaperone as required
10. When trained, administer flu vaccinations, B12 injections etc.
11. Carry out ECGs as requested
12. Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
13. Provide support during minor operations as required
14. Ensure clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
15. Manage clinical consumable stock including ordering and rotation
16. Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
17. Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
18. Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
About us
Carlton Group Practice is located in the heart of Burton on Trent and is currently the largest Practice in East Staffordshire providing primary care services to a patient population of over 17,700 patients. Carlton Group Practice provide services over two sites, Carlton Street Surgery and King Street Surgery.
We are a dynamic and forward thinking Practice lead by 6 GP Partners, a Business Manager and an Operations Manager who share the same vision to take the Practice into the next stage of primary care development, whilst providing an outstanding level of care to our patients. The Partners are supported by 5 Salaried GPs, a Clinical Pharmacy Team, established Nursing and Management Teams and a team of efficient and dedicated administrative staff.

Weare a large, friendly Practice close to the centre of Burton caring for over16,500 patients from our two sites, Carlton Street Surgery and King StreetSurgery.
Ourclinical team consists of 5 GP Partners, 5 Salaried GPs, Clinical Pharmacists, Paramedic,Practice Nurses, Health Care Assistants and Care Coordinators who are allsupported by an experienced management, administrative and reception team.
JOBRESPONSIBILITIES
Thefollowing are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant. There maybe on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependentupon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

HEALTH AND SAFETY
Thepost-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and othershealth and safety and infection control as defined in the Practice Health &Safety Policy, the Practice Health & Safety Manual and the PracticeInfection Control Policy and Published procedures. This will include (but will not be limitedto):
46. Using personal security systems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines
