Research Assistant – Advanced Materials / Device Fabrication Cambridge | Cutting-Edge Scientific R&D | Laboratory Based An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant to join a highly innovative research organisation developing next-generation materials and device technologies. Working within a multidisciplinary scientific team, you will support the development, fabrication and characterisation of advanced electronic devices in a collaborative research environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on experimental scientist looking to build their career in industrial research, working with state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and contributing to the development of new technologies. The Role You will support research programmes focused on the fabrication and evaluation of novel materials and devices. Working closely with experienced scientists, you will plan and perform laboratory experiments, analyse data and contribute to the continuous improvement of experimental methodologies. Key responsibilities will include: • Performing laboratory experiments including formulation preparation, coating processes and device characterisation • Supporting fabrication and testing of electronic devices using specialised laboratory equipment • Recording experimental procedures and results accurately within laboratory databases • Analysing experimental data and assisting in the interpretation of results • Contributing to the preparation of technical reports and presentations • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including physicists and chemists • Supporting the development and optimisation of experimental procedures • Maintaining high standards of laboratory organisation, documentation and safety The Candidate You will have a strong academic background in a physical science discipline and a genuine interest in experimental research. Key requirements include: • Degree in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Electronic Engineering or a related physical science discipline • Experience working on experimental research projects within a laboratory environment (academic or industrial) • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret experimental data and draw clear conclusions • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical discussions and reporting • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work both independently and collaboratively Desirable experience includes: • Cleanroom or high-specification laboratory environments • Device fabrication or semiconductor processing techniques • Experience with laboratory instrumentation used for coating, deposition or materials characterisation • Familiarity with scientific data acquisition or analysis software (e.g. Python or LabVIEW) The Opportunity This role offers the chance to work in a dynamic research environment where scientific curiosity and innovation are encouraged.
