Job Description: Station Manager
We are a family business established in 1972 from our farm in Cumbria, operating unique motorway service areas including Tebay on the M6, Gloucester on the M5, and Cairn Lodge on the M74. Our operations include our own Farmshops and Kitchens, Junction 38 dedicated to HGV drivers, Rheged—a meeting place, cafe, gallery, and cinema—and the Westmorland Hotel on the edge of the Lake District.
The Station Manager is a hands-on operational role responsible for leading the delivery of high-quality food and service front of house at our station, supported by Service Leaders.
* Obsessively delighting customers with exceptional service, leading the team from the front by coaching and providing feedback to improve performance.
* Building a strong team of service leaders to oversee food quality, customer service, and standards on every shift.
* Ensuring food quality aligns with defined specifications and recipes set by the food team.
* Providing warm, friendly, and efficient service through regular house visits.
* Recruiting and developing a team that embodies our values of warmth, graft, and courage.
* Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and health and safety through regular audits and team goal setting.
* Managing the station's sales, cash handling, and stock to ensure commercial success.
* Keeping team information accurate and up-to-date in My Westmorland People for rostering, holiday approvals, and payroll processing.
* Coaching your colleague trainers to ensure all team members are fully trained both on the job and through the Westmorland learning pathways, with regular system logins to stay informed.
* Adhering to employment law practices as defined by the business.
* Conducting regular check-ins to review performance and set future focus areas.
* Rewarding and recognizing team members in line with our values.
* Implementing recruitment and succession plans to maintain a 100% family tree structure.
* Achieving 5-star EHO audit standards.
* Focusing on team retention and happiness through targeted action plans and goal setting.
