About Us:
Gordon Timber is one of the leading softwood sawmilling companies within the United Kingdom. Trading for over 160 years, we are based in Nairn, which is the gateway to the Scottish Highlands, an area of outstanding natural beauty, providing a wonderful quality of life and opportunities to enjoy various outdoor pursuits.
Through a £5 million programme of regular capital expenditure over the last five years, including our first investment in robotic technology, our state-of-the-art sawmill site requires an engineering manager to maintain and improve our mechanical and electrical performance, in order to reduce downtime levels while continuing to work safely at all times.
Reporting to the Senior Management Team, the Engineering Manager will be expected to achieve this through a combination of effective engineering dayshift cover for breakdowns and planned backshift cover on planned preventative maintenance routines.
Engineering Manager - About the Role:
The position involves effective management of six mechanical engineers and three electrical engineers who work a three-shift system over a continuous seven-day cycle. Normal hours of work for the engineering manager will be dayshift, although flexibility in covering shift patterns may be required on occasions.
Responsibilities:
1. Proven experience in leadership and strong people management of engineers.
2. The ability to work safely within time deadlines in a fast-paced production environment, with a solid grounding in industrial engineering desirable.
3. Building a high performing engineering department responsible for contributing to agreed standards of performance and targets.
4. Providing guidance, training, and mentoring to all engineers.
5. Creating a way of working that revolves around knowledge sharing and collaboration with key sawmill operators, as well as fellow engineers.
Our Ideal Candidate:
A solid educational background, with a degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent. A minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience.
