Job Title: Senior Controls & Robotics Engineer

Location: Manchester Area, Cheshire Area

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Controls & Robotics Engineer to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, and commissioning of advanced automation and robotic systems across a range of industrial projects. You will play a key role in delivering integrated automation solutions, leading technical workstreams, and supporting the development of junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

* Design and develop PLC, HMI, and SCADA control systems
* Program, integrate, and commission industrial robotic systems
* Lead controls and robotics engineering activities from concept through commissioning
* Develop control strategies, functional specifications, and technical documentation
* Program PLC systems (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider) and integrate them with robotic cells
* Configure and troubleshoot robotic platforms (e.g., FANUC, ABB, KUKA, UR or similar)
* Support system integration, FAT/SAT testing, and on-site commissioning
* Troubleshoot and optimise existing automation and robotic systems
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers
* Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers

Required Skills & Experience

* Degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Control Systems Engineering, or a related discipline
* 5+ years of experience in industrial automation, robotics, or controls engineering
* Strong experience with PLC programming (Siemens / Allen-Bradley / similar)
* Knowledge of HMI and SCADA platforms
* Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.)
* Experience with system commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimisation
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Desirable Skills

* Vision systems such as Cognex, Keyence, SICK, or Omron
* Functional safety or safety PLC experience
* Machine vision or robotic inspection systems
* Experience in manufacturing, logistics automation, or high-speed production environments
