An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Diabetes team as a Specialist Nurse. Our service cares for approximately 250 children and young people aged 0‑19 years. This role is a fixed‑term contract for 12 months covering 37.5 hours across the week and requires flexibility to respond to the demands of the service. The service is based at UHCW and works within the population of Coventry and Rugby, operating over two hospital sites.
Secondment will be considered for internal candidates. Successful interviewees must obtain approval from their current line manager to accept the offer.
Successful applicants must provide an immunisation and vaccination report from their UK occupational health provider or GP.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert advice to children and young people with diabetes and their families in both the community and hospital setting.
* Act as a professional resource for the multi‑professional team.
* Support and educate children, young people and families from diagnosis onward.
* Deliver ward staff education, including mandatory training programmes and support for ward link nurses.
* Conduct home visits, school support and work across two hospital sites, requiring the ability to travel.
* Provide advice and support throughout childhood and progression into the adolescent clinic.
* Demonstrate leadership qualities, excellent communication skills and a strong motivation to collaborate with the team to develop and enhance the service.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Current experience of working with children and young people with diabetes.
* Flexible availability to cover 37.5 hours per week and ability to travel between sites.
* Strong communication, leadership and teamwork skills.
* Motivation to learn and engage in professional development.
* Immunisation and vaccination report from UK occupational health provider or GP.
