Technical Specialist – Medical Devices Decontamination

A Technical Specialist provides oversight, management, and technical expertise for decontamination of reusable medical devices in various settings including Sterile Services Units, Endoscopy Departments, Hospital Wards, ITUs, OPDs, Operating Theatres, Podiatry and Dental services. The role also delivers accredited decontamination training and education programmes nationally, ensuring all work meets the highest standards and complies with the Trust’s AVM quality system and procedures manual.
Main Duties
• Act as the Authorised Person (Decontamination) for installed decontamination equipment at NHS Trusts, private healthcare establishments, and commercial organisations.
• Ensure work meets statutory/legislative requirements and local and national NHS standards (NHS Technical Memoranda, Health Building Notes, International, European and British Standards).
• Provide technical control, support, and expert guidance for decontamination equipment, including trend analysis of critical data.
• Manage delegated projects within strict statutory/legislative guidelines with autonomy and freedom.

Qualifications
* Degree/HND in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
* Test Person Steriliser
* Test Person Washer‑Disinfector
Experience
* Providing annual validations on all types of decontamination equipment
* Providing commissioning on all types of decontamination equipment
* Fault diagnosis on all decontamination equipment
* Ability to undertake HTM2010, CFPP, 2030 and 2031 validation tests or equivalent
* Communication with senior staff responsible for decontamination
* Experience within a hospital/healthcare environment or a third‑party providing validation and/or servicing
* Experience as an electro/mechanical service engineer
Knowledge
* Awareness of applicable decontamination standards and legislation
* Understanding of data collection and calibration equipment
* IT literate
* Adaptable to new technologies and willing to learn
