This role is responsible for the specification, procurement, installation and operational management of test equipment at our new Test Facility. The Lab Manager / Test Equipment Development Engineer will lead the facility fit-out and bring-up, ensure test equipment is correctly specified and commissioned, and manage day-to-day laboratory operations to maximise uptime, safety and effectiveness. The role combines hands‑on technical delivery with operational ownership and people management.
Responsibilities
* Define equipment requirements to support current and future test needs
* Specify test equipment and develop purchase justifications and technical requirements
* Develop and maintain lab procedures, safety documentation and risk assessments
* Coordinate delivery, installation and commissioning of new test equipment
* Ensure facilities are prepared to receive new equipment (services, space, safety)
* Establish calibration, maintenance and servicing plans for all test equipment
Requirements
* Experience managing engineering or test laboratories
* Strong understanding of test equipment specification and commissioning
* Experience liaising with suppliers and managing technical procurement
* Practical experience with engineering test equipment and facilities
Preferred
* Experience supporting environmental, mechanical or EMC test activities
* Knowledge of calibration management systems and best practices
* Experience working in aerospace, defence or other regulated industries
* Line management or supervision of technicians
* Understanding of lab safety management and compliance
* Familiarity with ISO 9001 and ISO 17025
* Experience in fast‑paced R&D or startup environments, with rapid prototype iteration times
