We’re looking for an experienced Radiological Safety Consultant to join our large & growing team of experienced nuclear safety case professionals and help deliver high‑quality safety advice across some of the most complex, high‑profile clients (including EDF Energy (HPC, SZC and Generation), Urenco, Babcock Marine at Devonport, Canadian Nuclear Laboratory, Sellafield Ltd, Nuclear Restoration Services, Nuclear Waste Services to name a few!) and projects in the nuclear sector. Stantec’s nuclear capability work with operators and regulators across the new build, existing generation, decommissioning and defence markets. We specialise in safety cases, criticality assessment, environmental management, nuclear safety governance, radioactive waste management and decommissioning strategy, and development/ demonstration of nuclear organisational capability. Stantec also boast wider nuclear capability in criticality assessment, environmental, waste packaging and permitting, as well as reach back to Stantec’s wider engineering disciplines and technical expertise.

About The Role

You’ll play a key role in supporting clients across the full nuclear lifecycle - new build, operations, life extension, and decommissioning. Your work will include:


* Developing, reviewing and assessing safety cases, safety arguments and supporting documentation
* Producing hazard identification, fault analyses, ALARP assessments and safety justifications
* Providing expert input into nuclear safety management, licensing and regulatory compliance
* Working collaboratively with engineering and project teams to ensure safety is embedded throughout project delivery
* Presenting safety advice to clients, stakeholders and regulators with clarity and credibility
* Contributing to continuous improvement, technical governance and knowledge sharing
* Taking a lead role on delivery of specific technical work tasks, including radiological safety analysis, documentation review/update, technical report authoring, technical recording at workshops
* Supporting in client engagement and business development interactions, as well as support to the development of bid submissions for new work

YOUR IMPACT

As an experienced Radiological Safety Consultant, you will provide authoritative technical leadership that directly strengthens the safety, compliance, and performance of our clients’ nuclear operations. Your work will ensure radiological risks are understood, effectively controlled, and aligned with regulatory expectations across the full project lifecycle. In this role, you will improve the robustness and clarity of nuclear safety cases, giving clients and regulators stronger assurance in project safety. Reduce radiological risk by ensuring hazards are identified early and controlled through well‑founded, evidence‑based arguments and enable smoother, more confident project delivery by bringing radiological considerations into design and planning at the right time.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

* Experience in nuclear safety case development within commercial or defence nuclear environments, with a good appreciation for the changing nuclear landscape with respect to new build, generation, decommissioning and defence
* Strong understanding of UK nuclear regulation (ONR, MOD DNSR etc)
* A strong Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in engineering, science, maths or related discipline. A relevant Master’s degree is desirable, but not essential
* Knowledge of safety assessment methodologies such as HAZID, HAZOP, fault schedule development, PSA familiarity, or deterministic analysis
* Experience in nuclear safety case development within commercial or defence nuclear environments, with a good appreciation for the changing nuclear landscape with respect to new build, generation, decommissioning and defence
