Job Description:
The Role: Under the direction of the Camp Manager and/or Lead Instructor, you will support groups of 8-10 children through science experiments and crafts. You will adapt your skills to work with children of various ages, backgrounds, and abilities, catering to their individual needs.
You will help children settle in, organize their belongings, and communicate with parents or guardians about individual requirements. Ensuring a safe and respectful environment is essential, including cleaning and equipment maintenance. Flexibility is important as part of a small, dedicated team supporting the camp organization. Bright Sparks is committed to safeguarding children, requiring staff to complete safeguarding training.
Areas of Responsibility:
* Adhere to policies for a fun, safe, and stimulating environment.
* Deliver engaging activities encouraging participation.
* Work positively with team members.
* Maintain behavioral standards and promote sharing and caring.
* Meet the pastoral needs of children through supervision and care.
* Respect venue and resources, including cleaning duties.
* Communicate relevant information to parents/guardians.
Duties and Tasks:
* Lead assigned groups, providing clear instructions and motivating children.
* Make provisions for children with special needs.
* Challenge more able children with questions and extension tasks.
* Support children who are less engaged, providing encouragement.
* Report issues to staff.
* Share resources effectively with team members.
* Assist with transportation of kits and equipment between venues.
Personal and Desirable Qualifications:
* Responsible, mature, and professional attitude.
* Experience working with children or motivation to do so.
* Excellent communication and leadership skills.
* Adaptability, attention to detail, initiative, and team spirit.
* Interest in science and safeguarding children.
* Relevant qualifications or studying towards them are desirable.
* DBS check registered on the Update Service is preferred.
* Experience in camp environments and local residency are advantageous.
Salary and Benefits:
Casual/zero-hours contract, working during school holidays with specific dates listed. Working hours are from 8:25 am to 4:15 pm, including setup and pack-down. Staff are paid hourly rates based on age (£8.00 to £10.50 for 7.5 hours/day). Opportunities for progression exist.
Travel expenses are reimbursed via mileage allowance or public transport costs.
