The Waste Reduction Engagement Officer will play a vital role in ensuring the successful rollout of the weekly food waste collection service in 2026. This position is crucial in driving resident participation, reducing contamination, and securing stakeholder support for properties receiving communal waste collections.
About the role
With the launch of a weekly food waste collection service in 2026, this role will be essential in ensuring successful participation among domestic properties receiving communal waste collections across the district.
The primary focus will be engaging directly with property management companies, residents, and key stakeholders to provide the necessary knowledge, equipment, and encouragement to support their involvement in the service.
Working together is key to the success of the food waste collection service. This post will build strong relationships with property management companies, residents, waste collection teams, and internal departments to ensure a smooth rollout. By listening to concerns and finding shared solutions, the person will foster cooperation and collective ownership of the service
About you
The Waste Reduction Engagement Officer will require a strong understanding of environmental sustainability principles and the waste hierarchy to effectively promote food waste reduction and recycling. Excellent communication skills are essential, as the role involves engaging in a professional and confident way with residents, stakeholders, and colleagues to encourage participation in the service.
A high level of IT literacy, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required to manage and analyse waste performance data effectively.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and able to work independently, using their initiative to address challenges and drive engagement. Additionally, they must be able to manage, interpret, and accurately record information, ensuring that all data and reports are well-documented.
A Full UK Driving Licence is essential, as travel across the district will be necessary to undertake site visits and to meet with property management companies and stakeholders.
An offer of employment is conditional upon having the right to work in the UK. Huntingdonshire District Council does not hold a Sponsorship Licence and is unable to provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) or take over sponsorship for any role.
