Apprentice Engineer (8203) | Permanent Contract | 37 hours per week | £24,790 to £37,938 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) | (Grade D - I) | Norwich

Applications are sought from individuals who want to be considered for the Norfolk County Council Highway Apprenticeship Engineer programme.

We are seeking keen, enthusiastic, and self-motivated individuals to work in the Highways teams as part of the training programme which will involve rotation around different teams and different working environments. Being adaptable and an ability to embrace change is therefore essential.

You will need to be able to demonstrate good communication skills, be IT literate, keen to learn and develop within a positive and supportive civil engineering and local government environment. Flexibility and good teamworking skills are essential as you will be moved around the Highways teams on placements to maximise your learning experience. In addition, you will need to be numerate, literate and a good problem solver. An eye for detail and good judgement skills are also essential.

As part of the programme, you will be expected to complete further education, enrolling for a September start in 2025.

For the Apprenticeship Engineer Role in Civil Engineering Level 6 course typically via day release at Anglian Ruskin University or Suffolk University and with further training and support, achieve the professional qualification of an Incorporated Engineer (I.Eng). The course normally takes 6-years.

You will need to be able to access the course. applicants will need a total of 5 GCSEs at grade (A*-C) or (9-4) which includes, English, Science and Maths which will be at grade (A*-B) or (6-9) in Maths.

Additionally, you will need at least to hold or be predicted 96 UCAS Tariff points at Level 3 e.g. A Levels, BTEC National Certificate/Diploma (or equivalent), with Maths A level preferred at C or above.

To achieve this, you will also need to be proactive in self-development, including writing training reports and keeping your Personal Development Plan up to date.

An awareness of basic engineering principals is desirable, but an interest in highways and engineering, enthusiasm, and motivation to complete the training programme is essential.

An ability to travel to locations not accessible by public transport is essential.
