6 month contract role with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• The Education Lawyer will provide high-quality legal advice and support to the Council within the Legal & Governance team.
• The post holder will manage a varied caseload of education-related legal matters, offering expert guidance to services and elected members.
• This role requires strong knowledge of education law within a local government context, contributing to strategic objectives while ensuring compliance with legal and governance standards.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Provide clear, accurate, and timely legal advice to Council departments and elected Members on education-related matters.
• Manage a diverse caseload of routine and complex legal issues with minimal supervision.
• Undertake advocacy in courts, tribunals, and hearings where required.
• Attend committee meetings (including evenings) to advise on legal, governance, and procedural matters.
• Draft and review legal documents, reports, policies, and agreements.
• Conduct legal research and provide interpretation of legislation, case law, and statutory guidance.
• Ensure all work complies with Lexcel practice management standards and internal procedures.
• Contribute to the development of corporate policies and operational strategies.
• Use case management systems effectively to manage workload and meet performance targets.
• Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
Skills/Experience:
• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx).
• Proven experience in education law and/or local government legal services.
• Strong understanding of relevant legislation, statutory frameworks, and case law.
• Experience of advocacy and representation in courts or tribunals.
• Ability to manage a high-volume caseload independently and efficiently.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience using legal case management systems.
• Ability to influence, negotiate, and advise senior stakeholders and Members.

Additional Information:
• Bi-Weekly Payments.
• Location: Hackney, London.
• Contract: Interim until 31 October 2026.
• Rate: £50.00 per hour (Umbrella).
