About DiSSCo
The Distributed System of Scientific Collections UK (DiSSCo UK, https://www.dissco-uk.org/) is a consortium of UK natural science collections, led by the Natural History Museum in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), who are developing a national infrastructure to support the digitisation and use of the UK’s natural science collections to support critical research.
About the role
We are looking for a proactive and collaborative training specialist to lead the development and delivery of a national training and capacity building programme for DiSSCo UK. This three-year fixed‑term role will design and coordinate high‑quality training, guidance and support for digitisation hubs across the UK, enabling them to build sustainable, local capacity and to support their regional node partners through train‑the‑trainer approaches.
Working closely with the NHM’s Digitisation team, the DiSSCo UK delivery teams, and hub organisations across the UK, you will create blended learning resources, deliver in‑person and online training, and support the establishment of a growing community of practice. You will help hubs embed the tools, platforms and workflows provided by the Programme, and will generate evidence of impact to support programme governance and the external Monitoring & Evaluation framework.
This role is based within the Museum’s Digital, Data and Informatics (DDI) Department and reports to the DiSSCo UK Head of Digitisation. You will work in a highly collaborative, distributed environment, with regular UK travel to partner sites. This position is an excellent opportunity to shape national capability in natural science collections digitisation during a key phase of DiSSCo UK’s rollout.
About you
Are you a learning and development specialist who enjoys building capability across organisations and communities? If you’re motivated by designing engaging training, enabling others to succeed and working at scale across multiple partners, this could be the role for you.
You bring experience designing and delivering blended training programmes, including workshops, digital learning and train‑the‑trainer approaches. You’re confident working with specialist audiences and can translate complex or technical content into clear, practical learning. You are comfortable working in collaborative, multi‑partner environments, building relationships, influencing without direct authority and supporting teams to adopt new tools, processes and ways of working.
If you enjoy using data and feedback to improve learning, and take a proactive, organised approach to delivering programmes across multiple stakeholders, you will thrive in this role. You are also motivated by supporting others, fostering collaboration, and contributing to a programme that will have lasting impact across the UK research and collections community.
