Overview

Job summary: We have an exciting opportunity to appoint to Band 7 Senior Practitioner to support the Crisis and Home Treatment team in Milton Keynes.

We are looking for a qualified Mental Health practitioner with significant experience of working in SPA, crisis or community services. If you have the equivalent experience, then we would welcome your application.


Responsibilities

* The Senior Practitioner provides expert advice, line management, clinical leadership, caseload management, supervision and training to the team and ensures the consistent provision of high quality mental health care to people in mental health crisis in the community.
* The post holder will work closely with the Team Manager to ensure the effective management and development of the service.
* You will use management skills and experience to provide operational support to a team flexibly, efficiently and within allocated resources to ensure high quality service delivery.
* Work alongside MDT members (Consultants, Nurses, Social Worker, support workers, OT's and Psychological services) to support service users.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

* UK Professional qualification in nursing, occupational therapy or social work. Valid and current registration with governing body HCPC/NMC.
* Evidence of further professional development
* Teaching (clinical practice) qualification/certificate or equivalent experience

Desirable

* Leadership/ management qualification

Knowledge Essential

* Evidence based clinical interventions relevant to the service.
* Relevant specialist clinical courses/training.
* Models of care and treatment relevant to working with people in mental health crisis.
* Evidence of continuing professional development. Sound knowledge of Mental Health Act, Care Act, Mental Capacity Act.

Desirable

* Clinical examination, history taking, pharmacology, pathophysiology etc.

Experience Essential

* Demonstrable post registration experience at Band 6 or above in a mental health setting relevant to service.
* Demonstrable experience of managing staff
* Demonstrable senior clinical/clinical management experience in a mental health setting
* Multi agency working/working across interfaces
* Demonstrable experience of undertaking teaching, training and clinical supervision and appraisal for other staff.

Desirable

* Experience of working with housing associations and landlords; project management experience
* Experience of placement reviews
* Knowledge of housing benefits, LA housing systems and processes

Skills & Abilities Essential

* Assessing, formulating and working with people presenting in heightened state of distress.
* Communicating (oral and written) complex/highly technical and clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
* Clinical risk assessment and contingency planning
* Promote meaningful user/carer involvement
* Recognise own abilities and limitations and be willing to engage in reflective practice

Desirable

* Advanced computer skills
* Brief psychological interventions/ strategies for managing crisis
