Job summary Matchtech are excited to be working in partnership with Clancy Group on their recently awarded SSEN ED2 framework, and as result we have several live roles for Protection Design Engineers, based out of our Basingstoke office.

Responsibilities
* Design delivery of substation plant, equipment, and protection systems across a range of electrical infrastructures and new connection projects in both the distribution and transmission sectors.
* Detail design and procurement of substation plant including switchgear, power transformers, voltage control equipment, protection systems, protective relays, connectors, busbars, SCADA based telemetry, and related substation build activities throughout the project lifecycle.
* Ensure substation infrastructure is correctly identified and procured in a timely manner by preparing and delivering functional specifications, equipment schedules and scheme drawings.
* Provide ongoing technical support and advice on procurement of plant and equipment, liaising with suppliers and manufacturers to order plant and equipment per client specification and approved designs.
* Assess client project requirements and produce detailed plant, equipment, and protection specifications.
* Create system designs ensuring compliance with applicable specifications and tender documentation, coordinating with manufacturers and suppliers.
* Assist with tendering activities and provide regular technical guidance for proposed schemes as required.
* Prepare site layouts and schematics for multi-staged substations construction build projects.
* Manage external plant and equipment manufacturers, design consultants, and oversee design outputs to ensure compatibility with electro-technical requirements.
* Liaise with internal and external design teams, clients, manufacturers, and consultancies to produce accurate designs within timescales and deliverables.
* Produce detailed electrical control and protection schematic drawings for construction of large electrical infrastructure schemes.
* Produce electro-technical drawings, plant and material procurement lists, and wiring diagrams for control, protection, and related systems.
* Prepare functional specifications and provide advice on procurement of plant and equipment, liaising with manufacturers to order plants per client specification.
* Produce detailed specifications for high voltage plant, equipment and ancillary plant for high voltage substations.
* Review equipment manufacturers' proposals and liaise with manufacturers to ensure equipment suitability aligns with the proposed design.
* Produce equipment schedules in line with IEC, DNO, ENA, IDNO and client-based specifications.
* Develop and review single line diagrams, P&C block diagrams, and connection diagrams.
* Produce AC and DC schematic drawings, control and protection, cable block diagrams, SCADA and multicore cable and termination schedules.
* Maintain an electro-technical and commercial dialogue with suppliers and customers.
* Take responsibility for good technical documentation management and change control.
Qualifications And Requirements
* Proficient understanding of electricity industry and regulatory standards, policies, and their application to the role.
* Strong knowledge of electrical plant, transformers, protection, relays and control, and construction disciplines with current ENA, BS and IEC standards.
* Experience in contestable and non-contestable connections, with a track record in substation construction, cabling, overhead lines, and familiarity with switchgear, protection, control and major electrical plant designs including transformers.
* Knowledge of power systems, renewable energy and protection design at all voltages.
* Ability to take a brief scope and produce detailed design based on applicable standards; able to prepare single-line diagrams for multi-staged substations.
* Educated to degree level or equivalent.
