Salary: £38,500 - with an upcoming mandated salary uplift to £40,000
Start Date: 8th September 2025
We're currently looking for experienced and motivated Underwriters to join our Lending Operations team.

Overall Purpose of Job
As an Underwriter, you will assess and approve Residential and Buy-to-Let mortgage applications, ensuring they meet our lending policy, TCF principles, and FCA standards.
You will play a key role in risk-based decision making, maintaining high-quality underwriting standards and excellent broker communication.
Key Accountabilities
* Underwrite and approve Residential and Buy-to-Let mortgage applications according to lending policy and within authorized mandate, adhering to all quality and service measures.
* Recommend any cases outside mandate to management, ensuring robust documented rationale for decisions.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, providing timely updates and clear communication.
* Support Operations in ongoing User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
* Ensure all actions and communications align with Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) and responsible lending principles.
* Collaborate with the completions team to drive productivity through efficient operations.
* Uphold the company's Code of Business Ethics and responsibilities related to preventing financial crime, including money laundering and fraud detection/reporting.
* Stay informed of changes to HR policies, regulations, lending criteria, and underwriting standards to support responsible lending.
* Meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
* Handle complaints in line with the Complaints Handling Procedures, and identify performance and process improvements.
* Undertake ad hoc projects as directed by the Underwriting Technical Manager or Head of Lending, with flexibility to assist wider business needs.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills
* Minimum 3 years' experience in Prime and Specialist lending as an Underwriter with a mandate of at least £200k.
* Excellent communication skills, confident in engaging with brokers on application discussions.
* Strong integrity and commitment to treating customers fairly.
* Deep knowledge of the mortgage intermediary market and FCA permissions.
* Awareness of organized fraud and risk mitigation controls.
* Proactive, hardworking, adaptable, and able to work independently and in a team.
* Full understanding of responsible lending and relevant regulatory knowledge, with effective prioritization skills.
* Experience with Niche Buy-to-Let Lending, including HMOs, Light Refurbishment, and Multi-Unit properties.
* Understanding of Second Charge lending.
