SENDCo – Alternative Provision (SEMH)

Location: Northampton

Salary: 35,000-45,000

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Start Date: 1st June 2026

About the Role

We are looking to appoint a dedicated and experienced SENDCo to join our alternative provision in Northampton, working with students across Key Stages 3 and 4 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a passionate practitioner who is committed to inclusion and has the expertise to support some of the most vulnerable learners. You will play a central role in ensuring that all students with additional needs receive high-quality, personalised support that enables them to thrive both academically and emotionally.

About the Provision

Our alternative provision offers a supportive, structured, and nurturing environment for students who have struggled in mainstream education. We focus on:

* Re-engaging learners through positive relationships and tailored support
* Developing emotional resilience and self-regulation
* Delivering a flexible and personalised curriculum
* Supporting successful transitions to further education, training, or reintegration

Key Responsibilities

* Lead and manage SEND provision across KS3–KS4
* Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and statutory requirements
* Oversee the identification, assessment, and review of students with SEND
* Develop and implement effective SEN support plans and EHCP provision
* Work closely with teaching staff to ensure high-quality adaptive teaching
* Provide guidance, training, and support to staff on SEND and SEMH strategies
* Liaise with external agencies, including educational psychologists, CAMHS, and local authorities
* Engage and build strong relationships with parents and carers
* Monitor progress and impact of interventions, ensuring positive outcomes for students

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (desirable but not essential depending on experience)
* The National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCo) or willingness to achieve it
* Proven experience working with students with SEMH and/or in alternative provision
* Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice
* Experience with EHCPs, reviews, and multi-agency working
* A compassionate, patient, and resilient approach
* Excellent organisational and communication skills
* A commitment to inclusive education and safeguarding

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
