About the Role
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take a lead commercial role on high voltage and substation projects, managing cost control, subcontractor accounts and financial reporting across complex electrical packages.
You will work closely with project management and engineering teams to ensure projects are delivered to budget while protecting commercial position and contractual entitlement. This is a role with responsibility and influence, suited to someone confident managing NEC contracts and leading commercial discussions with clients and subcontractors.
You will be expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy while supporting and mentoring junior commercial team members where required.
The key requirements for this Senior Quantity Surveyor role are:
1. Lead commercial management of HV and substation projects
2. Manage subcontractor procurement, valuations and final accounts
3. Prepare and submit interim and final applications for payment
4. Develop and maintain cost plans, BOQs and profit forecasts
5. Identify and manage variations, change events and contract claims
6. Lead commercial meetings with clients and internal project teams
7. Administer NEC3 contracts and ensure contractual compliance
8. Monitor and report on project cost performance and risk
9. Work closely with planning teams to ensure accurate commercial forecasting
10. Provide clear commercial reporting to senior management
11. Support and guide junior quantity surveyors where required
Experience required for this Senior Quantity Surveyor role are:
12. Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or Construction Economics
13. 5+ years’ experience in a commercial role within infrastructure or power
14. Proven experience delivering HV, electrical or substation projects
15. Strong knowledge and practical experience of NEC3 contracts
16. Experience on projects with electrical scopes exceeding £3m
17. Strong commercial negotiation and stakeholder management skills
18. Excellent reporting and cost control capability
19. High level of competence in Excel and commercial systems
Desirable knowledge, skills and experience for this Senior Quantity Surveyor role are:
20. National Grid or transmission project experience
21. Background within electrical engineering or M&E contracting
22. Experience managing complex claims and escalations
23. Experience mentoring or supporting junior commercial staff
