MHST Qualified Educational Mental Health Practitioner

Attention all qualified Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHP). We have an opportunity for you to join our well-established Mental Health Support Team in Norfolk and Waveney. This vacancy is for our bases in Whiting House, Norwich; Breckland Business Centre, Dereham; and Kirkley Children's Centre, Lowestoft.

Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) provide mental health and emotional wellbeing support to children and young people and their families and carers through schools and colleges. Each MHST supports a cluster of schools and colleges in a geographical locality, covering a population of around 8,000 children and young people. The MHSTs sit within CCS' Emotional Health and Wellbeing Service.

The MHSTs work with education settings to provide early intervention for mild to moderate mental health difficulties and support staff in schools and colleges on their 'Whole School Approach' (WSA) to mental health.


Main duties of the job

The qualified post holder, with appropriate supervision, will work as an autonomous and responsible practitioner in educational and healthcare settings alongside a team of mental health professionals, within the scope of their local job description, to:

* Develop and deliver evidence-based interventions under supervision to children, young people, parents, and carers experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
* Work alongside a team of mental health professionals delivering a range of evidence-informed interventions.
* Develop and practice evidence-based skills to carry out holistic and child-centred mental health assessments, including risk assessments.
* Help children and young people with more severe problems access specialist services promptly.
* Support and facilitate staff in education settings to identify and manage mental health and wellbeing issues.
* Utilize EMHP skills to deliver services within education settings that complement existing initiatives.
* Develop and maintain safeguarding competencies and comply with local safeguarding practices.

Job responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

* Assess and deliver outcome-focused, evidence-based interventions in educational settings.
* Support children and young people with mild to moderate difficulties, involving their families and educators in self-management plans.
* Develop intervention plans collaboratively with children, young people, families, and educators.
* Support schools' Whole School Approach to mental health initiatives.
* Empower children, young people, and families to make informed choices about interventions.
* Operate inclusively, respecting diversity.
* Accept referrals according to protocols and record assessments of risk and safety measures.
* Adhere to all relevant regulations, policies, and procedures, including safeguarding and emergency protocols.
* Escalate cases beyond scope through case management and supervision pathways.
* Provide information and support for psychological treatments, primarily guided self-help.
* Manage caseloads effectively, attend multidisciplinary meetings, and maintain accurate records.
* Assess and incorporate issues related to transitions, education, and employment into treatment.
* Collaborate with relevant others and contribute to clinical material development.


Additional responsibilities include:

* Effective communication with diverse audiences.
* Utilizing evidence-based literature and research.
* Working with other agencies for case reviews.
* Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to data protection laws.
* Participating in clinical governance, audits, and emergency preparedness.
* Ensuring safety, risk management, infection control, and continuous professional development.
* Using IT systems for clinical and administrative tasks.
* Upholding quality and safety standards, including safeguarding and incident reporting.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Successful completion of the HEE-commissioned 1-year 'Education Mental Health Practitioner' (EMHP) course.


Skills

* Experience delivering therapeutic interventions to children and young people (e.g., CBT, solution-focused therapy).
* Ability to conduct group interventions.


Experience

* Experience working with children, young people, and families, especially those with social, emotional, or behavioural difficulties.

Salary: £29,970 to £36,483 per annum, pro-rata
