They have a diverse and inclusive community, with over 60% of our pupils speaking English as an additional language. We have a specialist provision for deaf and hearing-impaired children, which consists of a resource base and an outreach service. We are looking for an enthusiastic and qualified Teacher of the Deaf to join our team and support the learning and development of our deaf pupils. As a Teacher of the Deaf, you will: Plan, deliver and assess the curriculum for deaf pupils in the resource base and mainstream classes, using appropriate teaching methods and resources. Work collaboratively with mainstream teachers, teaching assistants, speech and language therapists, audiologists and other professionals to ensure the best outcomes for deaf pupils. Provide advice and training to staff, parents and other agencies on the educational needs of deaf pupils. Monitor and evaluate the progress and attainment of deaf pupils, using data and evidence to inform planning and interventions. Maintain records of teaching, meetings, assessments and reports. Manage and maintain personal amplification systems and radio aids for deaf pupils. Keep up to date with current research and developments in deaf education. Teaching is carefully pitched to ensure deaf children are included and are effective contributors. To work with school to develop teaching strategies, approaches, specialist materials and resources to support deaf pupils. To regularly plan with school staff and other agencies to advise on specific strategies and specialist equipment for individual pupils. To work with the school and parents to provide advice to the LA when a request for statutory assessment is made for deaf pupils. To act as a role model of good classroom practice for other teachers, modelling effective strategies with them. To be successful in this role, you will: Have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) Have experience of teaching deaf pupils in a primary setting, using a range of communication modes (e.g., spoken English, British Sign Language, Sign Supported English). Have knowledge of the National Curriculum and how to adapt it to meet the needs of deaf pupils. Have high expectations of yourself and your pupils, and a commitment to raising standards. Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work as part of a team. Have a positive attitude and a passion for deaf education.
