Our client are in the food manufacturing sector and are looking for a proactive and dynamic Buyer to join thier team and drive excellence across their supply chain, covering raw materials, components, and outsourced services.
About the Role
In this diverse and rewarding role, you’ll be at the heart of the procurement strategy - sourcing everything from essential raw materials and components to outsourced machining and fabrication. You’ll play a key part in ensuring our products are delivered on time, to the highest quality, and at the best possible cost.
Your day-to-day will include:
- Managing the purchasing lifecycle of raw materials, components, and outsourced services to meet production schedule.
- Building strong supplier relationships - leading meetings, measuring KPIs, and driving continuous improvement.
- Proactively identifying cost savings and implementing value engineering initiatives.
- Collaborating closely with Scheduling, Technical, and Production Engineering teams to identify opportunities for part consolidation and risk mitigation.
- Supporting and mentoring junior team members, sharing knowledge and best practices.
- Engaging in supplier development activities, including value engineering, invoice process improvements, and quality management.
What You’ll Bring
- A solid understanding of the procurement process in a make-to-order or engineering environment.
- An engineering qualification and/or CIPS preferred (but not essential).
- Strong experience with manufacturing MRP/ERP systems.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and supplier management skills.
- Commercial acumen with a keen eye for value engineering and cost-saving opportunities.
- Ability to read technical drawings and understand engineering processes (particularly machining or fabrication).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and confidence working independently and as part of a team.
- High level of personal and professional integrity, with the flexibility to travel.
