Overview
Public Health Practitioner – Nottinghamshire Health NHS Foundation Trust, Ashfield Healthy Family Teams. Closing date: 14 June 2026.
You will work in community settings, Health Centres, Schools, Childrens Centres and clients' homes to deliver the Universal Healthy Child Programme and Tier 1 targeted health services to the local 5–19 age population. The team works to an integrated 0–19 public health agenda and comprises Specialist Public Health Practitioners who lead teams of Public Health Practitioners, Assistant Public Health Practitioners, Healthy Child Assistants and Screening Assistants in delivering a universal and targeted 0–19 Healthy Child and Public Health Nursing Programme. The post offers potential future progression to Specialist Community Public Health Nurse degree.
Main duties
* Deliver universal and targeted health services to the 0–19 year population in Ashfield and Mansfield within a defined workload by a skill mix team.
* Support the day-to-day management of a defined workload and work within a skilled mixed team.
* Deliver public health, universal and targeted interventions including safeguarding across the 0–19 years age range in line with The Healthy Child Programme, delegated by the Specialist Public Health Practitioner.
* Work in line with National and Local guidelines and public health priorities.
* Provide support and clinical supervision to Assistant Public Health Practitioners, Healthy Child Assistants and Screening Assistants allocated to a defined geographical population.
* Promote health and contribute to tackling health inequalities through a proactive partnership approach.
* Work with children, young people and families in a variety of settings.
Responsibilities
* Deliver public health and universal/targeted interventions across the 5–19 years age range within a defined geographical population, with supervision by the Specialist Public Health Practitioner.
* Work in environments such as home, school or other community settings.
* Supervise and support the skill-mix team to maintain high standards of practice.
Person Specification
Knowledge
* Knowledge and understanding of the 0–19 Healthy Child and Public Nursing Programme and key performance indicators.
Experience
* Experience of working in a health/community setting with an understanding of health inequalities and the public health agenda.
* Experience of care planning, delivery and evaluation of interventions.
* Accountability for professional reflective practice and ongoing competence through mandatory safeguarding training.
* Ability to plan, organise and pursue continuous professional development.
* Ability to work in agreed areas of practice with appropriate professional support when needed.
Qualifications
* Registered nurse with current registration and evidence of ongoing development within public health nursing.

Contractual and Practical Requirements
