Offer description

Write a short description of your company, a boilerplate of the business, service or product that you offer. Include your business idea and the target audience. This text is primarily supposed to be descriptive, not selling.

The Opportunity

Northamptonshire is known as the "Rose of the Shires" but is globally recognized as the heart of the UK’s "Motorsport Valley." We are seeking an inventive and technically skilled Design & Technology (DT) Teacher to join a 'Good' secondary school. In this role, you will inspire students to bridge the gap between creative design and functional engineering, drawing inspiration from the county's world-class precision engineering and high-performance automotive heritage.

-----------------------------------

The Department & Studio Culture

* You will be part of a forward-thinking Creative Arts and Technology faculty that treats the workshop as a professional design studio.

* The department features specialized facilities for woodworking, metalwork, and plastics, alongside a growing digital manufacturing suite equipped with 3D printers and laser cutters.

* As a 'Good' school, the focus is on providing a balanced curriculum that emphasizes both traditional hand-skills and modern CAD/CAM technology.

* The department is known for its inclusive atmosphere, where students are encouraged to prototype solutions for real-world problems, from sustainable packaging to ergonomic furniture.

-----------------------------------

Core Responsibilities

1. Instructional Delivery: Teaching Design & Technology across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE), with a focus on Product Design, Timbers, or Engineering.

2. Technical Mastery: Guiding students through the iterative design process, helping them move from initial sketches and research to high-quality physical prototypes.

3. CAD/CAM Integration: Introducing students to industry-standard software (such as 2D Design or Fusion 360) and overseeing the safe operation of computer-controlled machinery.

4. Portfolio Development: Supporting GCSE students in documenting their "Non-Exam Assessment" (NEA), ensuring they demonstrate critical thinking, testing, and evaluation.

5. Workshop Management: Maintaining a rigorous standard of workshop safety and organization, ensuring all practical work complies with Health and Safety (DATA) regulations.

-----------------------------------

The Successful Candidate We are looking for a practitioner who is as passionate about sustainable materials as they are about digital innovation. Requirements include:

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Product Design, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

* Versatile Skillset: Proficiency in a broad range of workshop techniques, with the ability to teach students how to work safely with a variety of materials.

* Engagement & Inspiration: The ability to motivate students of all abilities, highlighting the diverse career pathways available in the local engineering and design sectors.

* Health & Safety Conscious: Current DATA training (or a willingness to undergo training) to ensure the highest standards of safety in the practical environment.

-----------------------------------

Why Join Us?

* A school that values DT as an essential subject for developing student problem-solving skills and economic literacy.

* Access to specialized professional development and regional networks of technology educators in the East Midlands.

* The opportunity to work in Northampton—a historic market town offering a high quality of life, excellent transport links to London and Birmingham, and a central role in the UK's engineering economy.

* A warm, collaborative staff culture where the DT department is a key contributor to the school’s extracurricular life and STEM initiatives.
