Location: Leeds or Newcastle. Tetra Tech is looking for a North East Team Lead to manage, inspire and grow a team of ecologists in the region, delivering high-quality ecological services and expanding market share. The role combines leadership, business development and technical excellence within the UK nature team.

The Role
As the North East Team Lead, you will lead the ecology team in the region, drive success for Tetra Tech’s UK nature team, balance leadership with hands-on technical work, and maintain strong client relationships. You will oversee a programme of works including complex ecological projects, ensuring technical quality and timely delivery while engaging with clients and guiding the team.
You will participate in project management training, support bids and proposals, and collaborate with colleagues across the business on multi-disciplinary opportunities. You will represent the North East region in business development activities, lead and coordinate technical elements of bids and tenders, and work with project managers and bid support teams. Building and leveraging your professional network to add value to bids, opportunities and projects is essential.
Key responsibilities
* Team Development: Mentor and inspire the team, communicate effectively with colleagues and third parties, oversee staff development, and manage line responsibilities including timesheet sign-off, pastoral care and duty of care where appropriate for the technical specialism.
* Client Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and new clients, positioning us as a trusted partner for nature-related needs.
* Project Leadership: Actively contribute to projects with expert ecological input from initial consultation to delivery, and support more junior project managers in the Region with troubleshooting.
* All Team Leads will receive Tetra Tech’s Project Management training up to Level 2.
* Technical Expertise: Provide high-level technical guidance to ensure projects meet regulatory and environmental compliance, supervise and review technical outputs, develop standard technical solutions, and share knowledge across the national Ecology team. Experience with Ecological Impact Assessments, EIA reports, Habitat Regulations Assessments, planning committees, inquiries, and Expert Witness evidence is desirable.
* Business Growth: Contribute to the strategic development of the Nature department and wider Tetra Tech business, participate in business development activities, understand market conditions, opportunities and competition, and identify and deliver opportunities with new and existing clients.
* Requirements: An appropriate academic qualification in a related discipline; Full Member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management; Chartered Ecologist or Chartered Environmentalist; demonstrable industry experience; hold a full driving licence.
* Flexible Working: We operate fully flexible, hybrid working; proximity to an office is not required. The role may involve time at an office or other spaces to suit those involved. We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements, including reduced or compressed hours and flexible start/finish times.
