Stoke Road Surgery has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Practice Nurse to join our friendly, teaching and training practice.
28.5 hours per week over 3 days. To include both a Tuesday and a Friday until 6.30pm, other hours negotiable.
We may consider a full time position for the right candidate.
Informal visits welcome (by arrangement).
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a nurse with experience in long term condition management in COPD & Asthma, cervical cytology and general treatment room duties including immunisations including childhood, routine schedule and travel, wound care, hormone therapy injections. Dementia and SMI reviews.
We will consider training the right candidate.

Stoke Road Surgery was established in 1948 and serves a semi rural population of nearly 11,000 patients in Bishops Cleeve and surrounding villages. We are a forward thinking practice offering online appointment booking and prescription requests, appointment reminders via text and early/late appointments.
We are a training practice for GPs and nurses of the future, keeping up to date with modern medicine. All our registered patients have a named GP, who is accountable for their overall care. Many of the doctors have a special interest offering additional skills in Dermatology, Cardiology, Women’s Health, Diabetes and Gastroenterology. We also have a dedicated team of nurses, receptionists and admin staff.
Job responsibilities
The post holder is responsible for the delivery of expert practice nursing skills to the practice population. Supported by senior nurses within the practice, they will deliver care within the boundaries of their role, focusing upon supporting patients to be healthy, monitoring of long‑term conditions, advising on evidence based interventions, health prevention and screening activities. They will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing nurse leadership as required.
Qualifications
* Registered Adult Nurse with current NMC registration.
* Qualified in treatment room nursing to include cervical screening; immunisations (travel; children and routine), phlebotomy; dressings; women’s health; routine injections PLUS a qualification in a long‑term condition, this would preferably be diabetes and CVD but other LTCs will be considered.

* Expert knowledge of patients with long‑term conditions.
* Aware of own accountability and scope of practice.
* Works well within a team and able to work autonomously.
* Ability to communicate difficult messages to patients and their families.
* IT skills – System One an advantage.
* Flexible to cover other members of staff.
* Awareness of issues within the wider health economy.
* Uses own initiative.
* Gets on well with people at all levels.
* Experienced in team working.
* Able to communicate health promotion strategies.
