The Role:
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Highways Streetlighting team and to help shape future lighting growth in Worcestershire, as well as maintaining and upgrading our current assets.
The postholder will help to deliver ambitious highway maintenance, upgrade, replacement and new lighting schemes benefitting our residents and wider communities, including working on some of the largest developments in Worcestershire.
The lighting network of the County is critical to economic growth, with investment proposed and planned in the road network, rail stations and service connectivity plus active travel. The County already has a strong record of delivery, having invested in significant lighting improvements including conversion of our lighting assets to LED technology, dualling the A4440 around Worcester, delivering Worcestershire Parkway rail station and active travel infrastructure including Kepax bridge across the Severn.
The County is a diverse and vibrant mix of rural and urban communities, benefitting from the high-quality environment which Worcestershire offers. The major rivers of the Severn, Avon and Teme weave through the county, integral to our history, and shaping our landscape and growth proposals. Ecology and lighting are often in conflict, so this aspect requires careful consideration and implementation.
Working with closely with the Worcestershire Local Planning Authorities and developers, the postholder will need to work across all aspects of the lighting process from pre-application phase to conclusion, to assist in shaping emerging infrastructure requirements, helping to take proposals from concept to reality.
We are looking for a lighting professional to join a close knit team, with an ambition to deliver growth proposals and develop their career. The successful candidate will be part of the Highway Operation teams at the County Council and will have a proven track record as a lighting professional.
You will be involved in the day to day operation of the street lighting section and work in partnership with other service providers to develop an integrated approach to service delivery and assist in the overall management and delivery of the street lighting term contract.
The ideal candidate will have a relevant professional qualification in Electrical Engineering and / or The ILP Exterior Street Lighting Diploma (or closely related discipline), thorough knowledge of Electrical Regulations and Health and Safety Legislation under which this service operates together with significant experience in street lighting.
You will:
* Be able to identify and update the street lighting asset register and computer management system.
* Assess the safety and record the installation details of new street light installations.
* Develop programmes of work for cyclic activities
* Participate in meetings with key stakeholders and monitor contractors and their employees.
* Liaise with internal and external teams and provide advice and support on existing and proposed lighting
* Work on their own initiative to tight deadlines.
* Be qualified to inspect street lighting and electrical installations on the public highway.
* It would be beneficial to have previous local government experience, but it is not essential.
