As the Community Engagement Officer for Your Health Stockport's Health Improvement and Weight Management Service, you’ll lead local engagement efforts across Stockport promoting the service through outreach, events, and social media. Your focus will be on building strong relationships with a range of partners, including the VCFSE sector, GP practices, and community services, to increase referrals and raise awareness. We’re looking for someone passionate, organised, and experienced in community settings, who thrives in both independent and team-based work. In this varied role, no two days will be the same, and you’ll be fully supported by ABL’s experienced, multidisciplinary team.
Main duties
This role plays a key part in promoting and developing the Your Health Stockport service through community engagement, partnership building, and supporting service delivery. You’ll implement ABL’s Community Engagement Strategy, build strong local relationships to drive referrals, and contribute to service development using data and feedback. The role involves working closely with project leads, attending local events, supporting communications and social media, and occasionally helping with delivery. Flexibility, collaboration, and a proactive approach are essential.

Job Description
Role Purpose: You will be the Community Engagement Officer, covering Stockport for Your Health Stockport’s Health Improvement and Weight Management Service. You will lead on community engagement and drive awareness of the service through promotions, social media, and engagement activities. You will increase referrals by promoting community engagement and building long-lasting relationships with local partners and other stakeholders, including leisure services, the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprises (VCFSE) sector, community services, GP practices, and childrens services.
You will be a motivated, passionate, organised and proactive communicator, with experience of working in a community setting. ABL takes a strengths-focused, asset-based approach to community delivery, aiming to innovate and partner rather than replicate existing delivery. The role requires dynamic working that aligns with the vision and values for the service supporting people to achieve healthy lifestyles.
No two days will be the same in this varied and flexible role. If you are comfortable spending a day with the team as you are working independently and confidently with new people and are highly organised, this could be the job for you.
This is a demanding role, but you will not be on your own. ABL’s highly experienced and friendly multidisciplinary team of Health and Social Care professionals, Business Intelligence, Service Development, Governance, Finance and Business Development are there to support. Existing delivery teams will also support you to drive the Service forward.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Promote and develop the Your Health Stockport service through community engagement, partnership building, and contribution to service delivery.
* Implement the ABL Community Engagement Strategy and contribute to the Communications Plan with support from the communications team.
* Build and maintain relationships with local services and partners to raise awareness, generate referrals, and explore co-production opportunities.
* Collaborate with Project Leads and operational teams to support referral activity and identify new referral routes.
* Represent the service at local meetings and events, occasionally presenting to groups.
* Input into service development using data, feedback, and engagement insight.
* Maintain the partnership database and provide regular engagement updates in team meetings and reports.
* Support communications efforts such as public events, training sessions, and social media, with some evening or weekend availability as needed.
* Work flexibly across the wider Your Health Stockport team, including support with service delivery if required.
Person Specification
Experience
Essential
* At least 3 years’ experience in a community setting.
* Experience of working in a health care environment.
* Demonstrable experience of partnership working.
* Demonstrable experience of speaking to large groups.
Desirable
* Experience in a leadership role.
* Previous experience of delivering training programmes.
* Experience of delivering focus groups.
* Experience of public speaking.
* Experience of partnership working / collaborating with various organisations.
Qualifications
Essential
* Degree and/or equivalent experience in community healthcare, community development, or business development.
Desirable
* CIMSPA (formerly REPS) Level 2 Gym Instructor / Group Exercise Award or equivalent.
