Overview
Mechanical Engineer – Heavy Equipment & Ground Support Systems (Hydraulics, Engines, Repair) – Contract, on-site role in Stafford, United Kingdom.
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer with hands-on experience in inspection, repair, and maintenance of mechanical systems, engines, and ground support equipment. You will be part of a team responsible for maintaining and refurbishing heavy engineering equipment used to support complex operational assets, with fault diagnosis, repair, refurbishment, and adherence to technical and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct detailed mechanical inspections, surveys, and repair assessments.
* Carry out fault finding, maintenance, and refurbishment of mechanical components and systems.
* Work on hydraulic, petrol, and diesel engine-based machinery and vehicles.
* Support the development and implementation of maintenance solutions for ground equipment.
* Maintain accurate records and follow established engineering procedures.
* Collaborate with engineers and technicians to ensure equipment reliability and safety.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Demonstrable experience in mechanical repair, maintenance, or inspection within a workshop or heavy engineering environment.
* Knowledge of hydraulics, engines (petrol/diesel), and vehicle systems.
* Computer literate with good documentation and reporting skills.
* Qualified to Level 3 or Level 4 in Engineering or equivalent apprenticeship.
* Eligibility for professional registration (EngTech or equivalent) is desirable.
Preferred Backgrounds
* Experience in automotive, aviation, marine, or industrial maintenance.
* Prior exposure to servicing and maintaining ground support or heavy engineering equipment.
