MCS Group is currently working in partnership with a leading public sector organisation to recruit a Mechanical Engineering Technician on a long-term temporary contract (initial 6 months with potential extension). The position offers an excellent hourly rate of £19.11 per hour plus benefits.
The Role:
1. Carry out maintenance, fault diagnosis, repair, and modification of emergency response vehicles and specialist equipment, including MOT inspections, bodywork, hydraulics, electrics, and welding, adhering to legislative and best practice standards.
2. Provide out-of-hours engineering support via an on-call rota, making autonomous decisions on vehicle and equipment repairs, and performing emergency roadside or incident scene repairs, often under adverse conditions.
3. Utilise engineering tools and computer diagnostics to fabricate parts, test and repair electronic systems, perform PAT testing, and maintain onboard electrical systems (110v and 240v).
4. Maintain accurate records using the Management Information System (MIS), including MOT inspections, asset tagging, repair data, and estimates for repairs that are uneconomical.
5. Manage stock, tools, and parts inventory, including audits, security, issuing, and restocking, while liaising with Supplies for parts identification and procurement.
6. Provide training, supervision, and support to apprentices and operational firefighters, ensuring all engineering qualifications and training are current across all specialist areas.
7. Support governance and service improvement initiatives by ensuring legal compliance, contributing to investigations, liaising with manufacturers, promoting organisational policies, and delivering high standards of customer service.
The Person:
* Possess a certified Level 3 trade qualification in Vehicle Repair and Maintenance (NQF).
* Post-apprenticeship experience working with heavy vehicles.
* Experience working with plant mechanics and light vehicle repair.
* Competency in MIS systems.
* Current UK C drivers license.
