A secondment/fixed term opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated midwife to join the Inpatient team as a Band 7 Postnatal Ward Lead at Frimley Park Hospital for 37.5 hours/week. This is an exciting opportunity for an established midwife to step into a senior leadership role and contribute to the delivery of high-quality, compassionate postnatal care.
The postholder will act as the midwife in charge of the postnatal ward, leading and coordinating the day‑to‑day operational management of the clinical area. They will provide visible, supportive leadership to the midwifery team, ensuring safe staffing, effective communication, and the delivery of evidence‑based care in line with NMC standards and Trust policies.
Working closely with the Maternity Ward Matron and multidisciplinary colleagues, they will play a key role in maintaining clinical standards, driving quality improvement, and supporting service development to meet the evolving needs of women and their families.
As part of this role, they will have the opportunity to further develop leadership, management, and service improvement skills, contributing to the ongoing enhancement of maternity services within Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties of the job
* Responsible for the implementation and evaluation of care within designated ward areas.
* Make decisions within current protocols and principles of care in compliance with the NMC Midwives Rules and Code of Practice and unit guidelines.
* Support the inpatient matron to ensure women receive high standards of care responsive to their needs and the needs of the service.
* Provide senior clinical leadership and act as shift coordinator on the postnatal ward.
* Lead and support midwives to deliver safe, effective and compassionate postnatal care.
* Coordinate day‑to‑day ward activity, supporting patient flow and timely decision‑making.
* Act as the senior midwife on duty, escalating concerns and managing risk appropriately.
* Support staff wellbeing, supervision and adherence to Trust policies and standards.
* Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to promote high‑quality care and positive patient experience.

* Registered Midwife
* Evidence of CPD
* Leadership/Management Training
* NIPE trained

* Experience of managing a ward area
* Experience of clinical audit/quality issues within the health care setting
* Evidence of successful collaboration with multi‑disciplinary teams at a senior level
* Experience in guideline development and implementation
* Experience of implementing and influencing clinical governance processes
* Experience of undertaking midwifery research and audit
