Are you an experienced engineering professional looking for a hands-on leadership role within a busy food manufacturing environment?
We are currently recruiting for an Engineering Supervisor to support and guide a multi-skilled engineering team within a busy ready-to-eat (RTE) production facility in Colchester.
Reporting into the Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining the reliability, efficiency, and safety of all plant equipment. This is a hands-on position, combining technical fault-finding with day-to-day supervision of engineering activities on site.
This is an excellent opportunity for a practical, solutions-focused engineer with a "can-do" mindset who thrives in a fast-moving FMCG environment.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and support a multi-skilled engineering team across factory operations
Carry out and oversee planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance
Diagnose and resolve electrical and PLC-related faults on automated production equipment
Support the effective use and upkeep of the site maintenance system
Ensure compliance with food safety, health & safety, and site standards
Drive continuous improvement activities to reduce downtime and improve reliability
Assist with engineering projects, including installation and commissioning
Coordinate with contractors and suppliers where required
Work closely with production, quality, H&S, and technical teams to maintain site performance
About You
Previous experience in a supervisory or senior engineer role within food manufacturing or FMCG
Strong electrical and automation background, including hands-on PLC fault-finding
Good understanding of PPM systems and maintenance best practices
Practical problem-solver with a proactive, hands-on approach
Strong communication skills and ability to support and motivate a team
Comfortable working in a busy production environment
Relevant engineering qualification (HNC / HND / Degree) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
