We are looking for an experienced and organised Medical Secretary to join our friendly and supportive team at Nova Scotia Medical Centre. This is a part-time position working15hours per week.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will play an important role in providing high-quality medical secretarial and administrative support to our GPs and clinical staff, ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day operations within the practice.

Nova Scotia Medical Centre is a GP practice in the Leeds area, serving a population of 6,000 patients.
Job responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive secretarial support to the clinical team, including typing and processing of referrals, reports, and correspondence.
* Manage incoming and outgoing communications efficiently, including hospital letters, emails, and telephone calls.
* Liaise with hospitals, community services, and patients to ensure timely information flow.
* Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in line with practice and NHS policies.
* Assist with workflow management and support the administrative team when required.
* Involvement in the Monthly MDT taking minutes and sending invites.
Person Specification
Experience
* Good general education GCSE English and Maths or equivalent
* Evidence of continued professional development relevant to the role
* Previous experience working in a Primary Care or GP Practice setting
* Proven experience in a medical secretarial or administrative role
* Experience managing referrals, correspondence, and medical documentation
* Experience using NHS systems such as SystmOne and eRS
* Strong understanding of medical terminology
* Excellent administrative, organisational, and time management skills
* High level of accuracy and attention to detail
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Outlook, Excel
* Knowledge of confidentiality, data protection, and NHS policies
* Ability to prioritise workload effectively and meet deadlines
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Professional and courteous manner when dealing with patients, clinicians, and external partners
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team

* AMSPAR Medical Secretary qualification or equivalent
* NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration or similar
* Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary healthcare team
* Experience in minute-taking for meetings such as MDTs
* Understanding of current NHS referral and workflow processes
* Knowledge of local healthcare services and pathways
* Experience of liaising with hospitals and community health teams
* Willingness to contribute to service improvement and team development
* Availability for occasional additional hours to support team cover
