As a Band 6 Radiographer at Luton & Dunstable University Hospital, you will undertake a pivotal role in delivering high-quality diagnostic imaging services across a range of modalities, including general radiography, CT, and fluoroscopy. This position offers an opportunity to work with advanced imaging technologies and contribute to a dynamic, patient-centred environment.
In addition to clinical duties, Band 6 Radiographers are expected to take on leadership responsibilities such as coordinating workflow, managing daily operational issues, training and mentoring junior colleagues and students, and ensuring compliance with radiation protection and health and safety policies.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
1. Perform a wide range of radiographic procedures independently and to a high standard.
2. Maintain accurate and timely patient records in accordance with NHS policies.
3. Supervise, support, and train Band 5 Radiographers and student radiographers.
4. Contribute to quality assurance, audit, and continuous improvement initiatives.
5. Ensure safe use of equipment and compliance with IR(ME)R and radiation safety guidelines.
6. Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to provide seamless patient care.
7. Participate in departmental on-call and shift rotas as required.
8. To show a high level of professionalism whilst working and adhering to local rules and policies.
Requirements:
9. BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent.
10. Current HCPC registration as a Diagnostic Radiographer.
11. Minimum of 12–18 months post-qualification experience, preferably in a Band 5 role.
12. Evidence of CPD and willingness to engage in further training.
13. Strong communication, organisational, and decision-making skills.
14. Ability to work autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
15. BSc Radiography (Hons) or Diploma of College of Radiographers (or equivalent)
16. HCPC Registered

17. Certificate in cannulation
18. Completion of 'red dot' course or equivalent to
Experience
Essential criteria
19. Extensive experience of working in an acute hospital
20. Extensive experience in general radiographic practice
21. Some experience working in CT
22. Some previous experience in a leadership role
Desirable criteria
23. Experience working in cardiac catheterisation Lab
24. Fluoroscopy trained with some experience
Skills
Essential criteria
25. Skilled in performing cross-sectional/cardiac imaging
26. Participate in first line image interpretation.
27. Computer literacy, with excellent computer / keyboard skills / mouse skills
28. Commitment to governance and audit
Desirable criteria
29. Ability to undertake range of both general & specialist cardiac catheterisation examinations
Knowledge
Essential criteria
30. Understanding of IRMER and other regulations relevant to post
31. Awareness of all legislation and safety requirements relevant to the post
32. Professional knowledge across the spectrum of cross-sectional/ specialised procedures
