Older People’s Charity – Community Car Driver
Burmantofts Community Friends
Would you like to join a charity committed to making life better for older people?
Who are BCF? We are a local, ground-level charity helping to improve the lives of older age people living in and around the LS9 area of East Leeds. We achieve this by providing practical support through activities, information, advocacy, outreach, and wellbeing services. BCF aims to increase confidence, promote positive life choices and self-care, while reducing social isolation. We work with local people, volunteers, councillors, professional/support services, and more. We are a fun and informal team, working hard to assist people and improve lives, always aiming to enjoy our work. Visit: burmantofts.org.uk
Main Purpose of The Role: Do you hold a full UK driving license? You could be our new community vehicle driver, picking up older local residents and bringing them to our groups and activities. You’ll provide door-to-door support for people living in and around Burmantofts. You’ll be responsible for keeping our 5-seater VW Max Caddy clean, safe and in working order. You’ll take the vehicle for safety checks. Support people in wheelchairs or using mobility aids with full training given. The vehicle is not a minibus, but a medium sized car and you don’t need any special licenses or experience to drive. We are looking for someone who’s calm under pressure, a problem solver and people centred. Our members are important to us, and they need to be important to you too. This is a variable hours contract with average hours 15 to 20 each week, Monday to Friday. You’ll support and train volunteers to drive the vehicle too. In between pick-ups you’ll help to assist the team running our social support opportunities.
The post holder will also provide ad-hoc support as necessary to the CEO and Trustees when required. Management Trustees expect BCF team members to actively promote the aims of the BCF at all opportunities and represent the organisation as a positive force for change in the local community.
