An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Clinical Coding Service, Swansea Bay University Health Board for the permanent position of a Clinical Coding Supervisor/Trainer.
The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate strong leadership skills and provide evidence of managing successful teams.
The successful candidate will need a high level of clinical coding knowledge, experience and training skills to develop and manage the trainee clinical coding team to pass their ACC exams.
Main duties of the job
A key requirement of the role is for the post holder to have the ACC Accredited Clinical Coder qualification (UK).
A key requirement for the role is for the post holder to use skills and experience as an accredited Clinical Coder to operationally lead
and manage teams within the Clinical Coding Service.
A key requirement for the role is for the post holder to have training experience, using their skills training the Clinical Coding trainees to pass the ACC exam.
The post holder will need to have management experience and have excellent management and leadership skills.
To be forward thinking, innovative, creative, and to continuously strive to develop the Clinical Coding Service and develop, produce and provide training material and training.
The post holder will also need to have experience in managing teams to achieve the highest standard of quality and performance and use their skills to plan, report and deliver.
Champion for digital technology and recognise the value and benefits of digital solutions in supporting the current and future developments of the Clinical Coding Service.

Qualifications & Knowledge
Essential criteria
1. Degree level or equivalent management experience.
2. Evidence of continuous professional development
3. National Clinical Coding Qualification (UK)
4. Understanding and experience of implementing Data Standards.
5. Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology.
6. Mentor and train staff undertaking the ACC Qualification.
7. Ability to use the full range of Microsoft Office to produce report, training materials, presentations and data bases.
8. Experience of staff management and conversant with personnel policy and procedure practices.
9. Experience of leading and managing Clinical Coding teams.
10. Experience within an information / Informatics environment, to analyse and interpret complex medical terminology and understand the impact on information reporting such as Clinical Outcomes and benchmarking.
Desirable criteria
11. Train the Trainer qualification (CCTP). Project Management Qualification

Knowledge & Abilities
Essential criteria
13. Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology
14. Understanding of NHS Wales Information Standards and Clinical Coding Policy
15. Ability to communicate well with all levels of staff and occasionally patients and external organisations on a face-to-face basis, via e-mail and over the telephone.
16. Professional and confident manner, self-motivated, dynamic and flexible, smart appearance, combined with ability to maintain a tidy, organised workspace.
17. Planning and Organisational Skills – Excellent time management skills, with the ability to re-prioritise as necessary in a changing environment, meeting agreed timescales, professional development -willingness and ability to learn new facts and put them into practice.
18. Ability to make decisions in accordance with agreed departmental protocols.
19. Ability to work to agreed timescales to analyse and interpret complex information
20. Ability to deal positively with difficult situations e.g. verbal abuse from patients / staff on an occasional basis.
