This Operations Manager position is ideal for someone who enjoys taking ownership across a broad operational remit. You’ll oversee a small but capable facility responsible for building a multi-product hardware system, managing quality, coordinating logistics, and keeping production activity running smoothly day to day. It’s a hands-on role suited to someone who is structured, practical, and confident, stepping into a period of transition with a “get things done” approach.
The organisation produces a suite of hardware devices built through multi-day assembly processes, including wearable units, controllers and supporting components. The Reading site plays a critical role in the company’s overall delivery capability. They are looking for someone who can stabilise operations, build structure, and drive efficiency while working closely with the wider leadership team.
As the Operations Manager, you’ll oversee production planning, build processes, quality standards, supplier coordination, and outbound logistics. You will also play a key role in improving workflows, preparing for upcoming product upgrades, and supporting the evolution toward higher-volume manufacturing.
This role is on-site four days per week, with occasional travel to other UK sites or suppliers depending on operational need.
Responsibilities include
* Overseeing daily production activity, ensuring assemblies are completed accurately, efficiently, and to specification.
* Maintaining quality standards, leading inspections, and supporting root-cause analysis for any product issues.
* Coordinating logistics for global shipments, including RMA returns, replacements, and order fulfilment.
* Managing planning, scheduling, and material readiness using the E-Max ERP system.
* Supporting and guiding the technicians and logistics team, ensuring processes are understood, documented, and consistently followed.
* Working closely with procurement to monitor component availability and manage supplier performance.
* Reviewing build processes and identifying opportunities for efficiency, reliability and cost improvement.
* Ensuring traceability, documentation and compliance requirements are followed across all products and repairs.
* Participating in knowledge-transfer activities as part of the leadership transition.
* Supporting incoming product changes and future scaling toward higher-volume manufacture.
What you’ll bring
* Strong experience in operations, production and/or quality leadership within electronics, electromechanical assembly, or similar environments.
* Comfortable running a small, lean facility with a wide-ranging remit across production, quality, stock, and logistics.
* Hands-on approach with willingness to step into day-to-day detail where needed.
* Experience with ERP systems (E-Max ideal, SAP or similar also relevant).
* Understanding of quality management, inspection processes, and systematic problem resolution.
* Ability to engage confidently with leadership, suppliers, technicians, and cross-functional teams.
* Strong organisational skills and comfort handling multiple ongoing priorities.
This is a varied, practical leadership role with real influence. You’ll take charge of stabilising and improving a complex, multi-product build environment, and help prepare the facility for the next generation of products. The work is visible, hands-on, and well-suited to someone who enjoys responsibility across operations, quality and logistics.
