Job Description:

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across various clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health services to over 1.15 million people, and 2.2 million including regional and national services.

The shift pattern for this role is Monday to Friday with on-call duties at a ratio of 1:10.

The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital's Orthopaedic Department includes 38 Consultants with special interests in Hip, Knee, Upper Limb, Foot and Ankle, Pelvis, Limb Reconstruction, Brachial Plexus, and Spine. The Consultant will provide inpatient services at QEUH, with outpatient services at West Glasgow ACH, and day surgery at Gartnavel General and New Victoria Hospitals. Consultants work in teams of three to provide general trauma coverage.

The applicant is expected to participate in the trauma rota. QEUH will be a Level 2 Trauma Centre, and the successful candidate will contribute to developing a Managed Clinical Network in Orthopaedic Trauma. The role includes providing comprehensive inpatient, day case, and outpatient spinal services.

The candidate will work within the multidisciplinary spinal team, support spinal ESP physiotherapists, and attend monthly spinal radiology MDT meetings. Besides clinical duties, administrative responsibilities are also part of the role. Applicants must hold full GMC registration, a license to practice, and be eligible for GMC Specialist Register inclusion.

UK-trained applicants should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR), or be within six months of confirmed entry from the interview date. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training. A minimum of one year of recognized spinal fellowship training is expected.
