To ensure high standards of medical support/services, primarily to DS as directed by the Lead Academy Performance Physiotherapist. Assist in the overall development of the Academy medical Department.
Assess, treat, and rehabilitate injuries/conditions of Academy players, in line with RTP philosophy, including load management strategies.
Follow the ‘one club’ philosophy; involve the Academy Performance Team and First Team Performance Staff in player management; support all medical staff as required.
Produce medical notes/injury data within 24 hours of input, logged and formatted as SOAP notes per HCPC/CSP guidelines, including illnesses.
Provide specific medical input for training sessions and matches, as directed by the Lead Academy Performance Physiotherapist.
Lead regular MSK screening for the DS, implement individual programmes based on results, and assist in wider Academy screening processes.
Deliver elite therapy to optimize player fitness and minimize injury-related downtime; contribute to injury reduction strategies.
Provide bi-annual injury audits for the DS, aligned with club injury auditing processes.
Lead medical assessments for trialists and pre-signing DS players, liaising with previous clubs for injury history.
Liaise with external healthcare professionals under the guidance of the Lead Physiotherapist for player assessments and treatments.
Attend medical consultations with Academy players, ensuring travel arrangements are made; appointments outside normal hours preferred.
Collaborate closely with the performance team on daily cases and cover services when needed.
Return to Play Services
Plan and lead DS rehab with high collaboration within the MDT, including on/off pitch progressions.
Leadership and CPD Services
Undertake personal CPD, provide feedback sessions, and lead in educating DS players on emergency first aid, injury prevention, recovery, drug awareness, and anti-doping policies.
Engage in the Performance CPD programme, lead medical CPD activities like Defib/CPR and trauma training.
Deliver CPR/Defib training to PDP staff and players, and supervise junior therapists.
Overall Environment Duties
Maintain cleanliness of clinical areas, care of equipment, and contribute to facility improvements.
Check and maintain trauma equipment, attend weekly meetings, and assist in managing therapy equipment and policies.
Projects
Contribute to PDP player availability targets, assist in illness prevention strategies, and coordinate with coaching and performance staff on player development and medical situations.
Safeguarding
Maintain or develop excellent safeguarding knowledge, report concerns appropriately, and comply with policies and legislation.
About The Candidate
Qualifications
* Advanced DBS Check
* Current FA Safeguarding Certificate
* BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy or equivalent
* Postgraduate qualification in sport/exercise medicine or related field
* Current CSP/HCPC membership

* Injury assessment and treatment planning experience
* Interest in paediatrics
* Experience with elite youth athletes and sports injuries
* Understanding of growth/maturation effects on athletes
