About the role:
Balfour Beatty is recruiting a Senior Structural Design Engineer to join their Power T&D team in Derby.
Role Purpose: To deliver design calculations, engineering drawings, and documents that enable safe and constructable engineered solutions. Reports to the Design Delivery Manager – Structures.
Key Duties:
1. Lead structural engineer for complex projects as directed by the Design Delivery Manager - Structures.
2. Analyze contract documents to determine scope, design parameters, methodologies, program, and budget.
3. Ensure project delivery aligns with scope, parameters, program, and budget.
4. Review designs and calculations by other engineers or apprentices for safety and compliance.
5. Produce designs and calculations for review, ensuring safety and compliance with contract documents and best practices.
6. Practice Safety and Sustainability by Design, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations.
7. Assist in resolving complex design issues.
8. Communicate with various stakeholders to ensure project scope and design are met.
9. Visit sites and offices to discuss and develop solutions for operational issues.
10. Analyze tender documents to produce engineering tenders, including scope, costs, programs, and risks.
11. Liaise with engineering managers, principal, and senior structural design engineers.
12. Support the Chief Engineer – Structures in delivering technical improvements and innovations.
13. Provide training as required.
14. Undertake other duties as assigned by the Design Delivery Manager.
Interacts with: Internal design team, suppliers, construction teams, clients, CDM Principal Designer.

Who we're looking for:
* Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
* Excellent structural analysis skills and problem-solving ability from first principles.
* Effective communication skills at all levels.
* Knowledge of lattice structures.
* Experience with BS EN standards and analysis software such as Autodesk Robot, Bentley Staad Pro, PLS CADD/TOWER.
* Working towards IEng/CEng.
