About the Role
Our Technicians provide the essential link between the Team Leader and the team’s Operatives. Technicians specialise in a range of disciplines; for this role you’ll become a specialist in Works Delivery Track. Technicians work outside in all conditions, day or night, often performing demanding manual work and transporting kit across difficult terrain. You will be safety-focused, follow rules, and work as part of a team next to moving trains travelling at high speed.
You matter to your team: you’ll lead the team when asked by the Team Leader, ensure the team has the right competencies to meet safety standards, and model safe working behaviours. You matter to us: today’s Technicians can go on to become tomorrow’s Team Leaders. You’ll receive training to develop both technical and non-technical skills, with a clear path to a rewarding Rail career.
Responsibilities
Working in all weathers on the frontline, you’ll carry out maintenance and faulting tasks, and deputise for the Team Leader when required. You’ll be involved in daily upkeep of the rail network, support essential maintenance, and help keep the railway running safely and smoothly for passengers and freight users.
You will work outdoors in all conditions, be safety-focused, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and safe working practices.
Skills and Qualifications
You don’t necessarily need rail experience, but you should show transferable skills and behaviours. The following are desirable:
* Leadership – ability to lead, motivate and direct a team for safe and efficient work delivery
* Effective communication – strong written and verbal communication skills
* Technical skills – knowledge of inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques in your discipline
* Safety – ability to model safe behaviours, implement safe systems of work, and challenge unsafe situations
* Problem solving – persistence in finding safe and effective solutions
* Willingness to learn – commitment to developing skills and staying current with standards
* Relevant qualification – NVQ Level 1 or 2 in your discipline or equivalent experience
Essential criteria: experience arranging and implementing safe systems of work; knowledge of delivering safe and efficient work; strong communication; discipline-specific maintenance knowledge; ability to work shifts in all weathers.
Working Arrangements and Benefits
* Shifts – changing pattern including days, nights and weekends

* Driving – driving licence (category B) required to drive Network Rail vehicles
