Upper School Vice Principal of Transition Years (Grades 6-8)

We seek a dedicated and student-centred leader who has exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to serve in the position of the Upper School Vice Principal of Transition Years (Grades 6-8).
The Position
The Vice Principal of Transition Years will be an integral member of the Upper School Leadership Team, consisting in 2026-2027 of two Upper School Co-Principals and one Vice Principal of High School Student Life. The Vice Principal of Transition Years will focus on Grades 6-8 in the areas of establishing and affirming clear guidelines, policies, and expectations related to student behaviour and character development. The Vice Principal of Transition Years will create, monitor, and enhance student engagement and leadership opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities
Student Life
* Be proactive in terms of student behaviour expectations; set and affirm standards of student behaviour based on the core values of CDNIS, the IB Learner Profile, Upper School policies, and the CDNIS mission statement
* Co-lead the Pastoral Leadership Team with the Vice Principal of High School Student Life to implement a cohesive vision for pastoral support across the Upper School
* Liaise with members of the Transition Years Student Support Team in an ongoing basis to monitor the needs of students
* Serve as Child Protection Officer for the Transition Years division (Grades 6-8)
* Oversee the Student Advisory Programme and lead the Heads of Grades 6, 7 and 8
* Lead the Transition Years Clubs and Activities Programme and oversee teacher leadership to ensure opportunities for student involvement during lunch breaks and after school
* Liaise with the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Special Projects on Upper School Transition Years Experience Weeks
* Liaise with the Athletic Director on student and staff sport involvement with the aim of promoting activity, health, and community
* Liaise with the Director of Visual and Performing Arts student and staff arts involvement with an aim of promoting creativity and community
* Work with the Lower School on the transition of students from grade 5 into grade 6
Student Leadership
* Work with Guidance Counsellors, Department Heads, and IB Coordinators to coordinate and monitor student leadership initiatives
* Be one of the staff supervisors of the Upper School Transition Years Student Council
Faculty and Staff Involvement
* Schedule and run meetings, special events and assemblies
* Create supervision schedules
* Liaise with the Health and Safety Officer to review annual school evacuation plans for grades 6-8
* Perform teacher evaluations
* Participate in the hiring process of teachers and support personnel
* Provide assistance with professional development initiatives
* Participate in policy development and implementation initiatives
* Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Work Experience
* A Master’s degree in Education or related field
* Significant teaching experience at the middle school level
* At least 3 years prior administrative/leadership experience as a Vice Principal or experience in a key leadership role in an Ontario and/or an IBDP/MYP accredited school
* Ability to inspire trust and confidence among all members of the CDNIS community
* Ability to effectively communicate and model the mission of CDNIS
* Ability to work collaboratively with administrators and teaching staff
* Proven excellence in leadership, organizational, administrative and communication skills
* A strong commitment to continuous professional development
* A keen interest in working with students in a holistic way to develop their full potential
