Offer description

Intervene early and particularly prior to the ratification of a permanent suspension to investigate possible alternatives to suspension and to ensure statutory regulations and guidance are appropriately adhered to. To promote inclusion where appropriate.

Work with other teams and agencies to help facilitate alternatives to suspension and to contribute to the Council’s effectiveness on implementing policies, particularly those related to school improvement, inclusion, raising attainment, narrowing the gap and reducing suspensions.

Actively support the operation of the Council’s In Year Fair Access protocols ensuring children and young people are admitted as speedily as appropriate into schools by taking a lead in co-ordinating and monitoring an agreed admission plan to enable a successful transition to a new school.

Manage and co-ordinate casework for children and young people with medical educational needs in line with current DfE statutory guidelines.

Work with children and young people, parents, schools, commissioned services and health professionals to ensure that children and young people receive appropriate support which is focused on facilitating a return to education as soon as possible; and ensuring that the child or young person has every available support to achieve their maximum potential, within the context of their health problem.

Take a lead role in developing an area of the teams work to support improved outcomes.


The post holder will lead on the preparation, monitoring and reviewing of education plans for children and young people absent from school due to suspension, medical or ‘other’ reasons. To do this in liaison with schools, parents, children and young people, commissioned services, NHS and other colleagues, in order to ensure children and young people receive a good quality alternative provision consistent with their needs. Liaise with other professionals and colleagues to make accurate assessments ofchildren and young people’s needs to ensure successful re-entry to school.

This role is designated as Hybrid: Workers spend the majority of their time on site or in client visits. They will work in a specified Council office between site visits and may also work from home on an occasional or more frequent basis. Many services and customers span across the Borough and therefore you may be required to work at any location in Cheshire West and Chester. The job holder will require a full driving licence and use of a vehicle
