About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic Obstetrician & Gynaecologist to join the team of eight SMOS at Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand, Te Matau a Māui Hawke's Bay.
The successful applicant will be expected to provide consultant led antenatal, gynaecology and colposcopy clinic services as well as working in Maternity, the surgical wards, operating theatre, early pregnancy clinic and the emergency department. There will also be a requirement to provide outlying clinics and support of the Wairoa rural maternity unit.
On Call duties include responsibility for labour and birthing, acute antenatal and gynaecological assessments and admissions and responsibility of all inpatient acute or from elective surgery after hours.
Day to day supervision of junior medical staff is required with registrars and SHOs and final year medical students working within the unit and there is the expectation to pick up a role as supervisor of training for some of these junior doctors.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital is a cohesive, dynamic campus located in Hastings. There is a skill mix within the existing consultant group which allows for development of a number of areas of interest within the specialty.
Hawke’s Bay is a teaching hospital with RANZCOG training accreditation. The maternity service provides care for approximately 2,000 births per annum with the support of a level 2+ SCBU we continue to care for women over 28 weeks gestation with babies over 1 kg locally. We are engaged with the Ontrack national research network and have been involved in clinical trials. Alongside an established midwifery quality and safety team we strive to continue to improve maternity care.

About you
You will require prior experience as a Consultant, Fellow or Senior Registrar, be accredited by RANZCOG and hold registration (or be eligible for registration) as a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist with the Medical Council of New Zealand. You will need to be certified to provide colposcopy services.
